Avelar Measure to Create Assisted Living Advisory Board Signed by Governor

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — To ensure the efficiency and safety of new rule changes for assisted living and shared housing facilities in Illinois, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, established an advisory board in a new law signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

“Assisted living and other shared housing facilities are home to some of Illinois’ most vulnerable residents, like seniors or people with disabilities. Ensuring their health and safety is one of my top priorities,” Avelar said. “The creation of the Assisted Living Advisory Board will undoubtedly lead to better, safer, rules and policies so that those living in these facilities can live happily and safely.”

Senate Bill 1814 creates the Assisted Living Advisory Board at the Illinois Department of Public Health to review and comment on proposed rules changes to the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Establishment Code. The board will include representatives from the Department of Public Health and the Department of Aging, as well as a physician, registered professional nurse, and a member with expertise in gerontology.
