Avelar Spotlights Pharmacy Announcement Expanding Mifepristone Access

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, issued the following statement in response to recent news that Walgreens will be adding Mifepristone, a life-saving reproductive health care medication, to some Illinois stores:

“Here in Illinois, the right to make decisions about one’s own body is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. As other states cower to extremists radicalizing an anti-abortion agenda, one thing is clear — Illinois will remain a haven for those seeking reproductive health care, and that’s non-negotiable,” said Avelar. “The news that critical reproductive health care medications like Mifepristone will be available in select stores statewide is a testament to the state’s commitment to provide accessible, quality healthcare options for all women. While this fight for reproductive freedom isn’t over, I’m in it for the long run — and will continue to voice my unwavering support for critical services such as reproductive health.”
